Description
1918 Golf Medal, "Presented By John D. Rockefeller" for "Victory Golf Medal" of the "United War Work Drive" Campaign To Raise Funds for needy victims in France. The obverse bears a portrait of Marshal Foch, who was the Supreme Commander Of the Allied Forces in WW1, with his name below. The reverse pictures a golf "green" with a golf ball approaching the hole, and two eagles fighting, above. It is dated November 16, 1918, and the sculptor's signature W. Mobray Clarke, Sc. is below. Evidently a gift to the golfers who participated in the match. Bronze, 62 mm diameter, and in nice condition except for some dark spots. A scarce early U.S. Golf related medal.
