Description
This quite attractive medal is a souvenir of the world's fair held in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1885. The obverse shows a detailed image of the main gate to the exposition, with the date 1885 and the wordsEXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE D'ANVERS
.
The reverse has an image of the Scheldt River God with a large urn from which water flows, a cornucopia in his right hand, and an anchor at his feet. In the background is the Steen castle with two floating hands as included in the Coat of Arms of Antwerp. The name
ANTWERPEN
is below the image, along with the 'signature' of the artist:

This medal was struck very well, with bold design and lettering, and references indicate that it has a bronze composition. The diameter is
approximately 30 mm (1-3/16").
This medal is in very fine condition, with relatively light wear, signs of handling, and toning, and this item remains bright. The toning is described as 'rainbow toning,' for it ranges from gray to blue to pink.
